Brad Mehldau 16 Album ‘must-have’ Discography

This list comprises of a collection of albums released by Brad Mehldau that I am using as source material to help solidify my doctoral concept.  It consists of 16 albums (168 tracks) and has been limited using the following criteria:-

1.  Physical Releases only
2.  USA releases only (no Japanese versions)
3.  No collaborative projects
4.  No compilations / soundtracks
5.  No original soundtrack recordings
6.  No promotional CD’s
4.  No ‘sideman’ projects
5.  No ‘through-composed’ projects (e.g. Mehldau’s ‘Operatic’ work)
6.  Official releases only (no bootlegs (e.g. Live at the Stockholm concert-house)
7.  Audio-only releases (no DVD’s)
This broad cross-section of music spans 15 years, from 1995 to 2011 and contains all of Mehldau’s solo and ensemble projects, as well as many albums recorded using various trio personnel.  Whilst I won’t rule out the very likely possibility of evaluating Mehldau’s stylistic innovations via collaborative albums such as projects recorded with Pat Metheny, Mark Turner, Lee Konitz, Joshua Redman, Peter Bernstein, Avishai Cohen, Wayne Shorter, Chris Potter, John Scofield, Charles Lloyd, Michel Brecker, and Kurt Rosenwinkel, I feel it is wise to first focus on projects that I feel Mehldau has had full artist control over.
